| Active ingredient: Ceftazidime (as ceftazidime pentahydrate) – 1 g International Nonproprietary Name – Ceftazidime ZACEF is bactericidal cephalosporin antibiotic, which mechanism of action is associated with inhibiting of synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It is highly active against broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including strains resistant to gentamycin and other aminoglycosides. It is highly resistant to most β-lactamase produced gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. ZACEF demonstrates high activity in vitro and acts within narrow range of MIC (minimal inhibitory concentration) against most pathogens. INDICATIONS Zacef is intended to treat mono- and mixed infections caused by susceptible microorganisms: · severe infections: sepsis, bacteremia, peritonitis, meningitis; infections in patients with some immunodeficiency; in patients of intensive care department, for example, those with infected burns; · respiratory infections including pulmonary infections in mucoviscidosis patients; · infections of ENT-organs; · infections of urinary tracts; · skin and soft tissue infections; · infections of gastrointestinal tract, biliary tracts and abdominal cavity; · bone and articulation infections; · infections associated with hemo- and peritoneal dialyses and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. Prophylaxis: infections associated with prostate gland surgery (transurethral resection). ZACEF is prescribed intramuscularly and intravenously. Dosage form: powder for solution for injection, 1 g in a vial, 5 vials in cassette and case.
